Comments Off on What’s Trending: The Burger Bar

You probably aren’t ready to hear this yet, but summer is over. Soon it will be time to pack up and take your friends and family gatherings back indoors. But before you hunker down for the cooler months ahead, why not celebrate the end of summer with one last BBQ?

BBQ’s are a fun get together that whole families can enjoy and the pressure is off you as the host because, well, what’s more casual than a backyard BBQ? However, if you are looking to add a little something extra to your last BBQ of the summer, consider pulling out all the stops and having a burger bar.

What is a burger bar?

Gourmet chefs have taken the hamburger to the next level in a lot of ways, and having a burger bar allows your guests to use their creativity to do the same thing. A burger bar basically takes the idea of providing a spread of BBQ condiments to the next level, which allows your guests to try some pretty sweet burger combinations they have never considered before. From the mind of a professional event planner, here are some great suggestions to get you started on your very own gourmet burger bar:

  • Buns: You have your basic sesame seed hamburger bun, but there are lots of other options out there, too. Pretzel buns and onion buns are two great add-ons to your burger bar, and they are still easy to build on.
  • Cheeses: A few extra special cheese options will have your guests creating new recipes. Add some Bleu Cheese, Pepper Jack, and Swiss for some variety. If you’re feeling even more adventurous, there are always more cheeses you can add to your menu. Be as daring as you want!
  • Bacon: Who doesn’t love a bacon cheeseburger? Bacon is a fan favorite, so why not try some different flavors of bacon to add to the mix? Pepper bacon or smoked Applewood are great options because you get the spicy and sweet. There are some really great tasting vegan bacon options out there as well.
  • Toppings: Getting fancy with the toppings doesn’t have to mean too much added work or expense for you. Besides your typical onions, tomatoes and pickles, add some different lettuce options, a few sautéed mushroom choices, caramelized onions and some surprise add-ons like avocados and jalapenos.
  • Condiments: Last but not least, give your guests a few add-ons to the typical list of condiments. For example, instead of just having yellow mustard, try horseradish mustard, spicy brown or honey mustard. Add some flavored mayonnaise options like chipotle for an extra kick. A variety of BBQ sauces is also a great idea. If you’re feeling really fancy, try a few homemade sauce recipes of your own. The choices are literally endless.

With a few extras, you’ll have your friends talking about your delicious end-of-summer BBQ and burger bar all winter long. You may even set yourself up as the trendsetter for next summer.
